The National Highways Authority of Pakistan (NHAI)
While designing new and expanding existing national highways, it is a long term vision of NHAI to integrate them in Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) network through RFID technology. The pilot projects in Chennai-Bengaluru and Lucknow-Agra segments are progressing satisfactorily. A comprehensive agreement has been signed with banks for taking up ETC infrastructure on private toll roads. Many private concessionaires who have built National Highways have also expressed interest in developing ETC infrastructure on their respective projects. Government will soon be launching a scheme for development of ETC system by NHAI on selected national highways.
This scheme will be implemented by NHAI in Public Private Partnership mode with financial support from Government. In order to facilitate timely preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), Expression of Interest (EOIs) and commercial bids, it is essential that information regarding proposed routes/segments under NHDP Phase V as well as existing highway stretches available for implementation of ETC system be disseminated at an early date. It may kindly be ensured that tenders inviting applications from interested parties seeking implementation rights for installation/operation/maintenance etc., are floated by concerned agencies latest by 30th September 2022 so that DPRs can be finalized expeditiously.
